I saw this article about taking a caffeine nap and decided to try it this morning. Basically:
- Drink coffee
- Take 15 min nap right away
- Be productive!
This combination is supposed to provide a longer period of alertness than the coffee alone. The caffeine supposedly clears the body of the "sleepy chemicals" and then the combination of waking up and the caffeine kicking in really gets you going.
I did it a little wrong (2 cups of coffee over 30 min of browsing, then slept for 30 min) but it seems to work. I’m much more awake than I was a couple hours ago or any other morning for that matter.
Any thoughts? Anyone else willing to try?

Hi! I have been caffeine napping for almost two years now. It’s a bit addictive. I’ve even been wondering if I had a health problem. But now it seems to make clear sense!
I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. I also really like coffee. After getting the family sent off each morning while I have a coffee, I indulge in a luxurious nap. It is the best sleep that I get even than during the night. I wake up and feel absolutely refreshed, perky, and productive. This is especially important as I work from home in my own business doing mind-numbing scientific writing. If I’m not at my best, the writing is pure rubbish.
My nap is a bit longer than the recommended 15 min but at 45 min, I still feel that the benefits outweigh the loss of billing time.
Thank you so much for commenting on the “coffee nap”!
